Google Cloud Professional Agentic Architect (Beta)

Vendor: Google Cloud · Last verified: 4 October 2026 · How we rate

Fee $200 (beta was $120)Level AdvancedAccess Open to anyoneDifficulty 5/5

This is a proctored Google Cloud certification, not a Coursera course certificate. It is in beta; details will change at general availability.

1. The quick verdict

Worth it if you design and run agentic AI systems on Google Cloud. It is Google’s newest Professional certification and the only one in this field that adds hands-on labs on top of the exam.

The one thing to know before you register: beta registration has closed, and general availability registration opens on November 2, 2026; passing the exam alone does not certify you until you also complete the labs.

4. What the exam tests

DomainWeightWhat it means in plain language
Develop custom agents~33%Choosing models, building RAG pipelines, and orchestrating single and multi-agent systems with the Agent Development Kit.
Evaluate and deploy agentic workflows~22%Test frameworks, continuous evaluation, and picking the right runtime for production.
Use coding agents for application development~17%Using coding agents with MCP servers and sandboxes to refactor code, optimize runtimes and fix vulnerabilities.
Secure and govern agentic workflows~15%Authentication, access control and guardrails with Agent Identity, Agent Gateway and Model Armor.
Build agents using low-code tools~13%Configuring agent workflows in Gemini Enterprise, Agent Designer and CX Agent Studio.

5. Who should take it, and who shouldn’t

Take it if you are:

  • A cloud architect or senior developer building agents on Google Cloud.
  • An ML or AI engineer moving from models to agentic systems.
  • A tech lead responsible for agent evaluation, security and production rollout.

Skip it or wait if you are:

  • Without hands-on agent experience. The labs will expose it.
  • Wanting stable exam details. Wait for general availability in November 2026.
  • Non-technical. Generative AI Leader is the business-level option.

6. What to expect after passing

  • What it signals: You can design, build, evaluate and secure agentic systems on Google Cloud, proven by both an exam and labs.
  • What it doesn’t prove: Agent work on other clouds, or business strategy skills.
  • Where it’s asked for: Too new for a hiring track record; most relevant to senior AI engineering roles and Google Cloud partner firms.
  • Natural next step: None higher at Google. Broaden with another vendor’s agent certification or a governance credential.

7. How to prepare

  • Official: The exam guide, the Professional Agentic Architect learning path on Google Skills, and documentation for Agent Platform, Agent Development Kit, Agent Runtime, MCP and A2A.
  • Practice: Use scenario questions that weigh low-code versus custom agents, runtime choice, cost and security. Practise hands-on too; the labs are mandatory.

Hands-on:

  1. Build a multi-agent system with ADK, with RAG over your own data on Vector Search (Custom agents).
  2. Set up an evaluation pipeline and deploy to Agent Runtime or Cloud Run (Evaluate and deploy).
  3. Add Agent Identity, Agent Gateway policies and Model Armor guardrails (Secure and govern).

9. FAQ

When can I take the Professional Agentic Architect exam?

Beta registration closed in September 2026. General availability registration opens on November 2, 2026.

Is passing the exam enough to get certified?

No. You also need to complete hands-on labs on Google Skills within 2 months of passing the exam.

Why is it valid for only one year?

Google says agentic AI tools and techniques change too fast for the usual 2-year validity. A continuing-education renewal path is available.

Agentic Architect or Professional ML Engineer?

Agentic Architect if you build agent systems; Professional ML Engineer if you train, deploy and run ML models.
