1. The quick verdict
Worth it if you are a solution architect designing AI and agent solutions across Dynamics 365, Power Platform, Copilot Studio and Microsoft Foundry. It is about planning, designing and deploying AI business solutions, including ROI, governance and lifecycle management.
The one thing to know before you register: you also need one of 15 Associate certifications (for example AI-103, AB-620 or AI-300) before Microsoft awards the Expert credential.

5. Who should take it, and who shouldn’t
Take it if you are:
- A solution architect delivering Dynamics 365 or Power Platform projects that now include AI agents.
- A Microsoft partner consultant leading agentic AI programmes for clients.
- An AB-620, AI-103 or Dynamics Associate holder moving into architecture.
Skip it or wait if you are:
- Without a qualifying Associate certification. Earn one first.
- A pro-code engineer building multi-agent systems in Python. AI-500 fits better.
- A business leader without architecture responsibility. AB-731 fits better.
6. What to expect after passing
- What it signals: You can plan, design and govern AI and agent solutions across Microsoft’s business applications.
- What it doesn’t prove: Deep pro-code engineering or non-Microsoft platform skills.
- Where it’s asked for: Microsoft partner firms, Dynamics 365 and Power Platform architect roles, and client proposals for AI-enabled business applications.
- Natural next step: None higher in this track. Add AI-500 for deeper engineering, or a governance credential.
7. How to prepare
- Official: The AB-100 study guide, the course Architecting agentic AI business solutions (AB-100T00), the free practice assessment and the exam sandbox.
- Practice: Use architecture scenarios that weigh build, buy or extend, cost, governance and ALM. Check the material matches the October 2026 update.
Hands-on:
- Write an architecture for one AI business process: agents, data sources, Copilot Studio vs Foundry, and ROI (Plan, Design).
- Design an ALM and testing approach for agents across environments (Deploy).
- Draft a governance and compliance checklist for a regulated client (Deploy).
8. Compare with
- Claude Certified Architect – Professional (CCAR-P), $175: Anthropic’s senior architect exam; partner-company employees only.
- Microsoft Multi-Agent AI Solutions Expert (AI-500): The engineering counterpart: multi-agent systems in code on Azure.
- Microsoft AI Agent Builder Associate (AB-620): A common qualifying Associate for AB-100.
